At the initiative of the United Nations, on April 11, the world celebrates the International Day for the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps.

This date was set in memory of the international uprising of the prisoners of the largest concentration camp - Buchenwald. It was on April 11, 1945 that the last prisoner left its gates with the infamous inscription "Jedem das Seine" - "To each his own". On this day, the whole world pays tribute to the mournful memory of the victims of Nazism who died in fascist concentration camps.

An hour of remembrance of the "Death Camps" was dedicated to this sad date, conducted by the head of the scientific and educational department of the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Historical Museum-Reserve Olga Vengrova and the head of the "Old castle" by Iryna Lekhitska in the walls of the central city library named after Kostya Solukha, to which students of the 10th grade of the Kamianets-Podilskyi Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training of the Khmelnytskyi region were invited (teacher V.V. Melnyk).

Ms. Iryna prepared a lecture, which was accompanied by presentation material. Those present learned about the types of Nazi prisons in Europe in general and Kamianets-Podilskyi in particular, about the Podillia military camps, of which there were 17, and about the terrible events of the Second World War in the territory of the region. The listeners were extremely impressed by the horrifying details of the extermination, torture and experiments with prisoners in the Nazi camps. Mrs. Iryna noted that the system of concentration camps built by Nazi Germany is one of the most terrible and ugliest things that humanity has come across.

More than 20 million people from 30 countries of the world were in concentration camps, death camps, and prisons in the territories controlled by the Nazis. 12 million did not live to be released.

Every year on this day, Ukraine, together with the whole world, bows to people who went through the horrors of fascist torture camps. With a minute of silence, those present honored the courage and bright memory of people whose lives were unjustly cut short by the barbed wire of concentration camps, the feat of anti-fascist resistance fighters, and respect for the older generation, which suffered incredible torment and suffering.

Olha Vengrova, head of the scientific and educational department of the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Historical Museum-Reserve, continued the story about the fact that the tragedy of the Second World War is being repeated today on the territory of Ukraine. With the beginning of the brutal Russian aggression, hundreds of our soldiers are in Russian captivity in unspeakably difficult conditions. They return exhausted and sick, but unbroken.

We hope that all Ukrainian prisoners who are currently in Russian camps will definitely return to their families.

We remember the terrible pages of history in order to overcome the enemy that threatens not only Ukraine, but also the entire civilized world, our security and stability.
